Dusty's on a November Morning

Last week Wendy Wacko, owner of Mountain Galleries asked me for 12x16's for the busy season.  So I made a quick trip to Whistler.  Got a great tour from my sister and brother-in-law (who has been going to Whistler since he was a kid), and took 700 photos for reference.   Soaked up the atmosphere for 24 hrs.  Now I'm back in the studio working hard to get as many done as possible before Christmas.  "Dusty's" is the first in the Whistler series.

The Playhouse

My Dad built this little playhouse for me and my siblings in the 60's.  It has a fold away ladder that leads to a sleeping loft.  We spent many happy hours playing there and having sleep overs.  My children also played in it and it is still being used by some of the grandkids.

Gonzales Observatory

This is the final painting of my workshop demo.  24x24.
I did a small study of the observatory in September.
Architects Denison and Henderson, built 1914.  Originally used for meteorological, astronomical and  seismological observations  and to set acurate local time.  For a while, it was the primary and most accurate source of time in western Canada.  It cost $11,900 to build and as there was no road access at the time, building materials were shipped to Gonzales Bay and then carried up the hill. It even has a living quarters in which Denison and his wife lived for 20 yrs.   It is now surrounded by park owned by the CRD and the building is leased.

Recent sales

Susan - a music teacher in Victoria, has now collected three of my paintings.  One of which was picked up by her sister in their boat to transport it to their farm on a near-by Gulf Island.  She is an amazing lady with fascinating stories to tell about her farming life on an island and commuting back and forth to Victoria to teach piano to generations of music lovers.  Thanks, Susan.
